Upcoming Workshops in 2020:

Denver Center for the Performing Arts

During this intermediate class, you will work toward a first draft of a feature length screenplay – the true test of a writer who wants to create for film or television. Develop and explore the essentials of a well-executed screenplay, including a 90-120 page draft, the principals of story (character, plot and tone), engagement and a working knowledge of how to execute the visual narrative form.

Young Writers Workshop at Parmalee Elementary

Join Candace Kearns Read for 8 weeks of creative writing time, Tuesday afternoons from February 25 to April 21, 2020 (no class March 24) from 3:30-4:40 in Mrs. Lane’s classroom at Parmalee!

This is a relaxed, yet focused and quiet environment for young writers to work on their own writing projects. Guidance, inspiration and craft talks will be provided, but the majority of the time will be spent on independent writing time.

Each session will end with a voluntary opportunity for sharing. Students are encouraged to come to the workshop with ideas about what they want to write, but this is not required, as generative exercises will be a part of the fun. Fiction, Nonfiction and Poetry writers in grades 2-5 are all welcome. Snacks and notebooks will be provided.

In conjunction with Parmalee PTA, those attending the Mountain Area Young Writers Conference will receive assistance in laminating and binding their books if desired. Attendance at the conference is not required to take the workshop. Registration is open until Sunday night, February 23rd. Maximum number of students in the workshop is 14. Register early, this class fills up!
